Queensland Law Society has applauded the state government’s two new magistrate appointees, and commended the government on its decision.
Queensland Law Society President Elizabeth Shearer welcomed the elevation of Magistrate Anthony Gett to Deputy Chief Magistrate and the appointment of Acting Magistrate Susan Warrington to the Cairns Magistrate Court.
“I congratulate Deputy Chief Magistrate Anthony Gett and Acting Magistrate Susan Warrington on their achievements to date and their appointments, which will only serve to enhance the busiest court in the state,” Ms Shearer said.
Ms Shearer said both Magistrates were highly respected in their fields and these appointments will be valued by legal profession.
“We look forward to the contributions each will make to upholding the administration of justice and affording access to justice to all Queenslanders,” Ms Shearer said.
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Shannon Fentiman announced the two new appointments today after the retirement of Deputy Chief Magistrate Leanne O’Shea.
“Deputy Chief Magistrate O’Shea made a valuable contribution as a magistrate for almost 20 years and was Deputy Chief Magistrate for the last six of those,” Minister Fentiman said.
“I congratulate the new appointees and wish them every success in their roles.”
Chief Magistrate Gett’s appointment begins 12 March, while Magistrate Warrington begins on 15 March.
